As the title and stock photo suggests, we're blogging in 2024 people! Am I writing this while perched on a rock, with the ocean waves crashing nearby and spotty Wi-Fi just strong enough to save these entries? Not this time. Trust me, I’ve lost a few favorite laptops that way.
So, why are we still blogging in 2024? The answer is simple: much like the pencil, the safety pin, or the cast iron skillet, blogging has stood the test of time and confidently declared, "I'm here to stay!" We're here for it.
Sorry instagram food influencers, but you did not discover cast iron skillets. They have been around since at least 220 A.D.
As I isolate a whole population of foodies on social media with my sass, here are a few fun stats on blogging in 2024, courtesy of HubSpot, to keep in your back pocket when your boss asks, or if it comes up at dinner parties:
Blog posts remain the most popular content format, with 9 out of 10 marketers using blogging to achieve content goals. (SEMrush, 2023)
More than 50% of bloggers are between 21 to 35 years old. (Truelist, 2022)
59% of marketers find blogging valuable. (DemandMetric)
80% of bloggers report that blogging drives strong marketing results. (Orbit Media)
70% of people would rather learn about a company through articles than advertisements. (DemandMetric)
Posts with video experienced a 4x increase in engagement metrics. (Orbit Media)
Many business bloggers argue that listicles (list articles) are the most popular blog post format. (HubSpot)
What does this mean? People are still blogging, perhaps more than ever. Younger people are reading and contributing to blogs, and marketers find it a valuable tool, especially when paired with video and photos. One might even say blogging is very demure, very mindful.
We’re excited to use this space to have some fun and share the fascinating things we’re learning as we grow RMP into a thriving business. Right now, we’re preparing two RMP-produced short films, Voting Matters and Power Lines, for film festivals this fall and winter. We'll be diving into the challenges, surprises, and unexpected twists that come with that process.
We’ll also get personal, sharing the challenges we face—from bookkeeping to mastering time management—so we can ultimately become an even better resource for our clients. These posts will be casual, brief, and packed with photos and videos. We also plan to show off fun new projects, developments and innovations that we learn about.
In choosing this transparent and honest approach, I’d like to share why we went with blogging over other communication methods like mailings, podcasts, or videos. The answer is simple—blogging lets us keep things casual with our community, offering candid perspectives that can be quickly and easily written from anywhere. We didn’t want the pressure of perfection! And in a time when so much of what we read and write is sanitized by AI software (I won't name names... but you know who you are), we’re keeping it real. So, fair warning: you might spot some typos. This is a blog written by humans, for humans.
We will dive into subjects like good uses of Artificial Intelligence tools, and those that we believe are costing you more than you're saving (Cut to: me being chased down 9th avenue by an army of roombas).
Ultimately, we’re using this as an opportunity to connect and strengthen our relationship with our community—without cluttering your inbox or filling up your podcast queue!
Thats all for now! Signing off.
